Sensory Storytelling for Schools

reading adventure workshops

Our award winning, 5* rated, Sensory Storytelling adventures are now available in primary school, pre-school and nursery settings.

Take your class on a literary adventure designed to help them fall in love with books and reading!

Story & sensory adventures bring brilliant books to life by positively stimulating all of the senses through sensory exploration whilst developing vital literacy skills in an exciting way. This is a great way for children to bring a range of brilliant books to life and explore the language, themes and characters in a story.

Sensory storytelling encourages children to form images in their heads and use sensory memories such as how things feel, sound, smell etc. This process helps children make sense of what they hear and helps lead to good reading comprehension.

Playing with different types of textures, scents and tastes will also help your pupils build new ways of talking and writing about the world. Suddenly the tree is more than a tree, it’s a sapling with smooth bark, or it’s a pine tree with rough bark and a sharp pine scent…

Providing opportunities for children to actively use their senses as they explore the book through sensory play is crucial to brain development – it helps to build nerve connections in the brain’s pathways. This leads to a child’s ability to complete more complex learning tasks and supports cognitive growth, language development, gross motor skills, social interaction and problem solving skills.

Sessions are all taught by outstanding, experienced primary school teachers
